The Soda IndustryThe soda industry refers to the carbonated and sweetened beverage industry that includes major soda companies like Pepsi, Coca-Cola, 7 UP etc. These drinks stemmed from the idea of carbonated or bubbling water also known as mineral baths that were famous during ancient Roman Times. The 18th and 19th centuries were more important time periods of invention, promotion and distribution of cola/carbonated drinks. However, this idea of sweetened carbonated drinks is traced back to the 1700s when scientists such as Joseph Priestly and John Nooth discovered ways of merging the carbon dioxide gas (it was responsible for bubbles in the water) with plain water. When they did discover the method, carbonated water drinks were sold in abundance by the end of 18th century. The beginning of the 19th century brought important discoveries in pharmacist shops, who added sugar and various flavors to this carbonated drink in order to provide what we have today as Pepsi, Coca Cola etc. These drinks were first created with the idea of curing various ailments. Coca made out of kola nuts juice and coca plant leaves were used to make syrup to cure headaches. Pepsi was made as a drink to deal with dyspepsia and 7 UP was meant to be an all natural drink that could cure indigestion. It is hard to track down one route of business for all these companies, as most of them have been merged or bought by different powerful individuals. When the soda industry was newly incepted, the public could see loads of contenders claiming to be having the “best drink” that would provide great health benefits and could also enhance a person’s mood. With the World War 1 and World War 2 destroying important economic centers and creating a Great Depression, all these companies had to go low. When they later remerged, there were lots of changes and modifications done, which led to the drinks that we have today. The soda industry certainly went to a very frizzy drive to have billions of consumers worldwide. The manufacturing of soda drinks is no great secret as people knew the machines that were employed to make these soda drinks. You also don’t need to store or buy plastic bottles for the drinks as the soda machine helps you to go green by protecting the environment.
